More Indian tourists have booked holidays in Phuket this year, according to the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT), which says more than 10,000 Indian tourists visited Phuket in the first quarter of 2010.
A large contingency of Indian tour operators is due to meet in Phuket later this month and be shown around the island courtesy of the TAT.
Luxury Phuket resorts are also becoming popular venues for Indian weddings. An estimated 400 affluent Indian couples are expected to wed in Phuket this year, some in mass ceremonies.
Talking of mass weddings in Phuket, a traditional ‘Baba Peranakan’ (tradtional Chinese) mass wedding ceremony is planned in Phuket Town on August 14th and 15th.
Couples of all nationality can take part in the ceremonies, which includes a rickshaw procession through the streets of Phuket Town on the 15th.
