WORD ON PHUKET: Authorities in Phuket are preparing to welcome Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday (March 19) for the first Cabinet Meeting in Phuket.
Prime Minister Yingluck is scheduled to arrive at Phuket International Airport by military transport at 9.50am on Monday, where she and Cabinet ministers will be greeted by Phuket Governor Tri Akaradecha and other dignitaries.
About 1,000 police officers soldiers will be providing security for the ministers while they are in Phuket.
On her first day in Phuket, the Prime Minister will visit the Tsunami Memorial in Mai Khao, in north Phuket, and will then inspect the site of a proposed new elevated roadway in the Klong Koh Pee area of Phuket, near Phuket Town.
A 600-metre-long road bridge with four lanes, plus pedestrian and bicycle lanes is planned in Klong Koh Pee, a 7-rai area populated with mangrove trees.
The road plan passed an Environmental Impact Assessment in 2009 and has been earmarked with a 200 million baht construction budget.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to official open the OTOP market at Sapan Hin at 3.30pm.
In the evening, the PM Yingluck will retire to the Hilton arcadia Resort & Spa before Tuesday’s conference at Prince of Songkhla University Phuket Campus.
