Decisive Talks At Inaugural Phuket Architectural Seminar

Hailed as a historical event, the inaugural Phuket Architectural Society (PA+S) Forum International Seminar set a president for frank and open high-level discussions between the region’s best minds in property development, design and architecture, and aimed at forging alliances and understanding among public- and private-sector decision makers.

While dining on royal Thai cuisine in exquisite surroundings, the ‘Sume-Hua Dinner Talks’ in January brought together for the first time experts in occupational, vocational and professional land- and property-related fields. This was possibly the very first time that candid panel-led discussions focusing on green design were held on the future property development in the region.

Held in the elegant Sino-Portuguese surroundings of the Blue Elephant Restaurant, formerly the Phuket Governor’s residence, the panel and about 30 guests explored ways to establish a ‘Phuket Standard’ for sustainable development.

Supported by leading lifestyle brands Arkitektura and Gaggenau, the prestigious panel of experts comprised: Dr Porn Wirun (Leed AP (AIA) USA) from the Conservation Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University; Dr Theerathorn Tara Chai (Ph.D. Michigan USA), Director of Research & Business Development, Property Perfect Co.; and Mr Sophon Jira, Vice Mayor of Phuket City.

Architects, designers and property professionals took part in panel-led discussions over dinner to explore winning strategies in forging alliances and seeking a mutually beneficial balance between architectural and commercial interests in sustainable real estate development and green architecture.

With some of the region’s most knowledgeable and respected authorities on the panel of modern architectural experts, the high-powered talks gave participants valuable insight from leading organisations on ecological and economical building practices and raising standards ahead of FTA trade liberalization in Thailand.

The panel of experts fielded questions and shared their views and experiences of best practices for successful sustainable development. Discussions centred around forming mutually beneficial policies geared towards practical solutions and how to raise local and regional criterion to the global standards of today.
