Social Media Suicide

Millions have commited social media suicide in the past month, following privacy fears over facebook's introduction of facial recognition technology

WORD ON FACEBOOK PRIVACY FEARS: Millions of people have reportedly deactivated their Facebook accounts amid privacy infringement fears.

About 100,000 Britons and an estimated 6 million Americans deactivated their Facebook accounts in the past month after Facebook introduced controversial facial recognition technology.

According to British media reports, the number of Facebook accounts held in the UK had previously reached 30 million, accounting for about half the population. However, the past month has seen a dramatic drop in the number of Facebook users in the UK, the USA and Canada.

At age 27, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was estimated to have a personal fortune of £8.2billion, making him the world’s 52nd richest man as his company aimed to reach a target of 1 billion Facebook accounts worldwide.

Adding to fears that Facebook’s intentions are less than transparent was news that Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes attended the 2011 Bilderberg Group conference in Switzerland last week — a private gathering of global leaders, bankers and mega corporation heads shrouded in secrecy, at which protesters claim global political agendas are set with little mainstream media coverage.
