WORD ON PHUKET EARTHQUAKES & TSUNAMIS: A 5.6 magnitude earthquake off the north coast of Sumatra was felt in Phuket at 16.46, Monday April 16, 2012.
A tsunami watch is underway. However, no tsunami warning has been issued.
People all over Phuket have reported feeling a short jolt, which seemed to briefly raise the ground and rattled windows.
However, a Krabi resident reported not feeling anything.
The quake occurred at a depth of between 2 and 5 km, making it actually appear stronger than the 8.6 quakein the same area on April 11.
The Phuket Department of Disaster Prevention & Mitigation is monitoring the situation.
Mobile phone networks are once again jammed.
